We're on the home straight now!<br />
<br />
This is a block I designed, its a Christmas Lantern.You can <a href="https://s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/cwilt/assets/patterns/christmas_lantern.pdf" target="_blank">get the pattern here.</a><br />
<br />
It is a pieced and appliqued block, with a template pattern.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioS9o6bxtmTqPMzvnOww6uFBjKw15YpBs6UQUd2kWpwiCIrsqx0al1zRedMPv1z5s_GmIRKIPbU1hJiVsXk8HtslT1uh-Wf6-zKGpN5X4Sglu6C6GZ4vzxKou-kV_IHt9KgO3dEZgWIQo/s1600/lantern_600.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioS9o6bxtmTqPMzvnOww6uFBjKw15YpBs6UQUd2kWpwiCIrsqx0al1zRedMPv1z5s_GmIRKIPbU1hJiVsXk8HtslT1uh-Wf6-zKGpN5X4Sglu6C6GZ4vzxKou-kV_IHt9KgO3dEZgWIQo/s400/lantern_600.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So supplies at the ready<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnr-mdHPzsMbFho1z7ej93oczub64aFBTRXmarjXti8pUdQwu_DAqND4dayumtSLnAbhF2xrIO_CZlGE9t7wmMXDie66fJ8yeCwBV_JZZaG2_pk75jxKwozl_c7j62BhhiW3M45P0Vmkk/s1600/PB041772.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnr-mdHPzsMbFho1z7ej93oczub64aFBTRXmarjXti8pUdQwu_DAqND4dayumtSLnAbhF2xrIO_CZlGE9t7wmMXDie66fJ8yeCwBV_JZZaG2_pk75jxKwozl_c7j62BhhiW3M45P0Vmkk/s640/PB041772.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
Cut the pattern pieces noting that the broken lines denote the seam allowance of 1/4" included where necessary.<br />
<br />
There is one exception to this rule as follows: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLE5xc9xUJu-gOegzNNPJrsDYcc8rhvltrY73_6Pgopscb7Lh5iJGLgCWOzx5kozNkliQY4b6HC_PTRwlr5ptFdKK7Dckr1YZ_ryME6sAL44HzxlZ10Wje2MaqYhNww3M-vylMOAYkiOk/s1600/PB041792.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLE5xc9xUJu-gOegzNNPJrsDYcc8rhvltrY73_6Pgopscb7Lh5iJGLgCWOzx5kozNkliQY4b6HC_PTRwlr5ptFdKK7Dckr1YZ_ryME6sAL44HzxlZ10Wje2MaqYhNww3M-vylMOAYkiOk/s640/PB041792.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For the background top and background bottom pieces, the fabric must
be<br />
folded and the edge of the pattern placed at the fold, as shown by
the direction of the arrow. Just make sure you don't cut along the solid
line at the edge!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWJSNMnJzsbD8NjQ_LVCPBAWQFBsDpbmQ3320qF0L8o-lPkDWh7AVYbEw5-T_oFVS0HTYtbCknwpQa3l3B1ODHETPbiideWK6YysEnP2NoAer1XMSmrsUwkBqZ8mjfgO90Xk3ZW564i9A/s1600/PB041790.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWJSNMnJzsbD8NjQ_LVCPBAWQFBsDpbmQ3320qF0L8o-lPkDWh7AVYbEw5-T_oFVS0HTYtbCknwpQa3l3B1ODHETPbiideWK6YysEnP2NoAer1XMSmrsUwkBqZ8mjfgO90Xk3ZW564i9A/s640/PB041790.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is what the pattern and fabric should look like before cutting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQwEO8Ofx1VoBcnS0t9FqBVfCCWXtitgxNX4rswo2pSpJ1V-vgnfcXxovXgWDAgAjXLuvgNsYIFjT6lVkezgT3UTMXatxxFzgPtFSd2ndab92DD2GnYh7-Y8AVKTw0p8qiOO-dBeOLBLQ/s1600/PB041795.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQwEO8Ofx1VoBcnS0t9FqBVfCCWXtitgxNX4rswo2pSpJ1V-vgnfcXxovXgWDAgAjXLuvgNsYIFjT6lVkezgT3UTMXatxxFzgPtFSd2ndab92DD2GnYh7-Y8AVKTw0p8qiOO-dBeOLBLQ/s640/PB041795.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is because when the fabric is unfolded it runs the width of the block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Cut out the pattern pieces along the broken line-where included or the solid line where there is no broken line. <br />

<br />
Start by sewing together the lantern windows taking a 1/4" seam allowance, press open.<br />
<br />
Sew the rows together making sure they are in order, top, middle and bottom left and right. This is important since the windows are shaped to fit the lantern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbK6z9DOZrC5XGuUDmUS5SJ-h6eEJe6TlXKDDL3lQlclFksrwHFxwlYkS2kc7ClV_nx8fsbTZG0JGS3cwN53feiRhoaN9cVCDL98PnReAsWpcAKS9hQWNEZw0fxgN5iQvvTAlaPmr7fdQ/s1600/PB051811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbK6z9DOZrC5XGuUDmUS5SJ-h6eEJe6TlXKDDL3lQlclFksrwHFxwlYkS2kc7ClV_nx8fsbTZG0JGS3cwN53feiRhoaN9cVCDL98PnReAsWpcAKS9hQWNEZw0fxgN5iQvvTAlaPmr7fdQ/s640/PB051811.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Add on the top and bottom, then the sides of the lantern as per instructions, this middle section just needs the background pieces added left and right for completion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbV453GrBf2klfahF3v6CTlGh8ZMr_dUvhKfhbsRHwVmKh_Mr-EjrismdmYqwDfc_OqcBsS3Tdaf60xb7hZED6Xcd58FasiOpi_-meGhoQA9ewgTlYlpKZUv7sbyF-1S03AMO3ZsBoo9o/s1600/PB051817.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbV453GrBf2klfahF3v6CTlGh8ZMr_dUvhKfhbsRHwVmKh_Mr-EjrismdmYqwDfc_OqcBsS3Tdaf60xb7hZED6Xcd58FasiOpi_-meGhoQA9ewgTlYlpKZUv7sbyF-1S03AMO3ZsBoo9o/s640/PB051817.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Following the diagram included in the instructions, sew the lantern base to the background fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRJ1odlMS40v1YhUvToZtzcQVlE1y0GF3nvZaIYFtH5PVygHEZz6FP6iLB3Y0AfezgIEWFu4LlkTvzVJDudkxsrnBcJfWMm2oHtc8y4RZUp8gRKxd67fa2nP92A5lJfTBy2HA7TSIJPLA/s1600/PB051821.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRJ1odlMS40v1YhUvToZtzcQVlE1y0GF3nvZaIYFtH5PVygHEZz6FP6iLB3Y0AfezgIEWFu4LlkTvzVJDudkxsrnBcJfWMm2oHtc8y4RZUp8gRKxd67fa2nP92A5lJfTBy2HA7TSIJPLA/s640/PB051821.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Repeat for the lantern roof and background fabric, trimming the seams and pressing open.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoK-6PIncBEV320hSCc-8oAlypc1CQTD7_bmx34eT2JL31JF47Ryjxq9mOXSrK1_JGsOieSR3I4FTo9o-lFBY4TxcpFRaa8YPT8W7NiiLvvla_KY8GTwbxiSzkQ67f99-CF7KTw5FyJGw/s1600/PB051834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoK-6PIncBEV320hSCc-8oAlypc1CQTD7_bmx34eT2JL31JF47Ryjxq9mOXSrK1_JGsOieSR3I4FTo9o-lFBY4TxcpFRaa8YPT8W7NiiLvvla_KY8GTwbxiSzkQ67f99-CF7KTw5FyJGw/s640/PB051834.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
When the three sections are complete, sew them together to make the block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivv2a2YR7fu2tHFnDlt13l4z0tK98YzqEqWK1IO0dVvq4KidtRkKDMmOcDrgTeqUDFxyFQp96x8GW96JFUJ_3P9MTLUR8JS4-TlfAk9DULwL7goDy7a68cppKCz81ANpB-EXFF2Orn47M/s1600/PB041800.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivv2a2YR7fu2tHFnDlt13l4z0tK98YzqEqWK1IO0dVvq4KidtRkKDMmOcDrgTeqUDFxyFQp96x8GW96JFUJ_3P9MTLUR8JS4-TlfAk9DULwL7goDy7a68cppKCz81ANpB-EXFF2Orn47M/s640/PB041800.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Trace the applique shapes onto the fusable web, making sure you trace on the paper side. Please note that all the pieces are already reversed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_RV4ouZeOBjRoAwjtD2cW0Jz3AHuMpd-7Lkx0jYy-nIXrNvBtzEX1lXSBGOAGetNr7Kq5mboTJtk11AlbeCw58W0mncCBoTLtXW5ryNdsf56tUzXWCuel_l_4kPvGJWpV6AApP5M49eQ/s1600/PB041803.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_RV4ouZeOBjRoAwjtD2cW0Jz3AHuMpd-7Lkx0jYy-nIXrNvBtzEX1lXSBGOAGetNr7Kq5mboTJtk11AlbeCw58W0mncCBoTLtXW5ryNdsf56tUzXWCuel_l_4kPvGJWpV6AApP5M49eQ/s640/PB041803.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is so that when they are cut out and pressed onto the wrong side of the fabric, the paper backing can be removed and the pieces are ready to fuse straight onto the lantern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHD0L6gmO-3Now2J8qI7-euaEzmkQqRnp7ow7sqs7Lls216XblWQkp7n5ic_pJPkN_Q0pcT3qwX8jsIfYx0Ouot3_9ox5NPQwC8F1fCdi91Yd73FbLYRsldrsTLSwdaOXEYD0Vz6C0miU/s1600/PB041806.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHD0L6gmO-3Now2J8qI7-euaEzmkQqRnp7ow7sqs7Lls216XblWQkp7n5ic_pJPkN_Q0pcT3qwX8jsIfYx0Ouot3_9ox5NPQwC8F1fCdi91Yd73FbLYRsldrsTLSwdaOXEYD0Vz6C0miU/s640/PB041806.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I think a good tip at this point is to leave the lantern snow pieces labelled until you are ready to press them onto the background, it's surprising how they all look alike when the paper backing is removed!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk2051E96ueQHh0Zex18zQ64ySgD7i8b0uuKUok58LaviLACrNtBgOv-dWYCptcNnGdFCY7kpT8GXCpWxAEm5bvF7Hn07C7AcSKL_cFwnvvplnpEI7zZ4gp6JdDJ_RAToZDgfNlPdRM3g/s1600/PB061837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk2051E96ueQHh0Zex18zQ64ySgD7i8b0uuKUok58LaviLACrNtBgOv-dWYCptcNnGdFCY7kpT8GXCpWxAEm5bvF7Hn07C7AcSKL_cFwnvvplnpEI7zZ4gp6JdDJ_RAToZDgfNlPdRM3g/s640/PB061837.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Remove the paper backing by scoring through the paper in the middle of the piece, this avoids frayed edges when trying to separate the fabric from the paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTTlUOcSU0B75gAdGvACENbvskHXS-PTQtRoctR6RDB67le9-11jX8GaubzhwzV7bd6gLwX-wblhVGAnjuiZxkVIklAATb7zCUtWkR6DN972EpRI5PLZ1Cumof03EwQZ3VHs-1hOrOx5M/s1600/PB061846.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTTlUOcSU0B75gAdGvACENbvskHXS-PTQtRoctR6RDB67le9-11jX8GaubzhwzV7bd6gLwX-wblhVGAnjuiZxkVIklAATb7zCUtWkR6DN972EpRI5PLZ1Cumof03EwQZ3VHs-1hOrOx5M/s640/PB061846.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
Applique the edges of the shapes using your preferred method.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Finished block! <br />

I know, I know since when did Rudolph have silver antlers? Well ever heard of artistic licence? I just couldn't resist giving him silvery Christmasy antlers. Since I found this fabric I intend to make the most of it.<br />

<br />
Block 8 has been designed by <a href="http://alicesamuelsquiltco.com/" target="_blank">Olusola Ajisafe</a> 'Sola'. Christmas gifts, a lovely pieced block!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiviCtgXe66p6SKkvnunNru8BN2dondZCUiaLwacq9Z6M6YzWwGR0MzVLAQqSS93GcatKdWQpCfib3-XySZknVRFHlA78EQreFSMYae80usiKK-QgD8QwRv3NsyZM1UPKuY17TpiX87_Yc/s1600/PA091704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiviCtgXe66p6SKkvnunNru8BN2dondZCUiaLwacq9Z6M6YzWwGR0MzVLAQqSS93GcatKdWQpCfib3-XySZknVRFHlA78EQreFSMYae80usiKK-QgD8QwRv3NsyZM1UPKuY17TpiX87_Yc/s640/PA091704.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have chosen one red and one green fabric for my 'gift boxes'. All tied together with a silver ribbon. I have been looking for this particular fabric since the Quilt Along began. I think a bit of sparkle never goes amiss when it comes to the festive season!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR82b7zXsgAI0Sc7XqbFa_Yl9bTGfScqKTwwA29NbKSt6T-97IkzpgQdUL2ALRuffHPB8sdl-6FMBXpqJdwTqXUHgqY_yK01XTtGsduaKDDNrE5Mu1RBk8Ic8R4ZHI5gWM86Ode-2wG1s/s1600/PA091714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR82b7zXsgAI0Sc7XqbFa_Yl9bTGfScqKTwwA29NbKSt6T-97IkzpgQdUL2ALRuffHPB8sdl-6FMBXpqJdwTqXUHgqY_yK01XTtGsduaKDDNrE5Mu1RBk8Ic8R4ZHI5gWM86Ode-2wG1s/s640/PA091714.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once again I have decided to use my frixion pen to mark seam lines before sewing. This is another pieced block that needs to be precisely cut and accurately sewn for the whole block to work.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlhE9AYsyOx7swxXXN5tEgJKRlzAoEYXeCSgmEJsb8k3UTLj-N3JLPuBKvFUMVVajfcsLybVx2wsNFQvw_7dXOzzGRfQCHIx4VpBSgO5SKLIDfrHkeQ0FtGM8Ct3SABlJ3_XfYcRl6mAA/s1600/PA091720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlhE9AYsyOx7swxXXN5tEgJKRlzAoEYXeCSgmEJsb8k3UTLj-N3JLPuBKvFUMVVajfcsLybVx2wsNFQvw_7dXOzzGRfQCHIx4VpBSgO5SKLIDfrHkeQ0FtGM8Ct3SABlJ3_XfYcRl6mAA/s640/PA091720.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Sola's instructions are very detailed but I am still struggling to see how these strips will become boxes!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdLwJO3GvZ783Vx6R_KH7frmIetthoVCdLInx6XGdtbt70i-w30q-z_3oGfEb_l_h8il8wulcsWat8MTljIXtHFaSgS_IJwovz8qJMlA0iu9xGBSGR98xt4OP4jEmIOTaH1cj4vC9imHo/s1600/PA091722.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdLwJO3GvZ783Vx6R_KH7frmIetthoVCdLInx6XGdtbt70i-w30q-z_3oGfEb_l_h8il8wulcsWat8MTljIXtHFaSgS_IJwovz8qJMlA0iu9xGBSGR98xt4OP4jEmIOTaH1cj4vC9imHo/s640/PA091722.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Before I cut and sew, I have decided to do a 'mock up' of how the block comes together. I must admit I am really pleased with what I see and have had a 'eureka' moment after doubting that I have understood the instructions!<br />
<br />

Finished block!! I love this block and even though the silver fabric does not stand out in the photographs I am really pleased with it. <br />
I think I could've added a third dimension by making the left hand side of the gift boxes with a slightly darker fabric, but overall I am really pleased with it. Thank you to Sola for this lovely design!<br />
<br />

</div>
Here we are already at block 7! This time its the turn of <a href="http://sandystardesigns.com/" target="_blank">Sandy Maxfield</a>. Sandy<br />
has designed a poinsettia block, which symbolises Christmas perfectly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimX2dwhvLDCtKcBpxKxd-sKOgbb-yQ4_UjicI0reEGsrTtaDCpBvPWeUyYTaErDarUwtrWnmemVpdi8fKKNqgjj5xJN1dRtXlZnIKCNrBguSL7iAKDXkOr9lTWdSDnymAYQQIPgZEex6o/s1600/PA041652.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimX2dwhvLDCtKcBpxKxd-sKOgbb-yQ4_UjicI0reEGsrTtaDCpBvPWeUyYTaErDarUwtrWnmemVpdi8fKKNqgjj5xJN1dRtXlZnIKCNrBguSL7iAKDXkOr9lTWdSDnymAYQQIPgZEex6o/s640/PA041652.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is my fabric choice, of course it has to be red, but the different patterns add another dimension.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMhjGuNllTjn2iyEK3BRXlfjUODPWE-MOiNQRJQj3CwDeXm1ry4H6uStyeYoWf7hNw7moP7nE4fibJAxZI7fHXI8CuIEhL2VMbUYLu9QS0iKD1OdeqOvfmSkds1OIC2zZNLF9DilprBmU/s1600/PA041667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMhjGuNllTjn2iyEK3BRXlfjUODPWE-MOiNQRJQj3CwDeXm1ry4H6uStyeYoWf7hNw7moP7nE4fibJAxZI7fHXI8CuIEhL2VMbUYLu9QS0iKD1OdeqOvfmSkds1OIC2zZNLF9DilprBmU/s640/PA041667.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have decided to mark my sewing lines this time and not rely on instinct, it's important that the seams are exact so that the block comes together as Sandy intended.<br />
<br />
I have used a frixion pen, it's one of my favourite tools to use and so clever. Once the lines are sewn, the marks are erased by pressing with an iron, even on white fabric!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I found it useful to mark the printed instructions to make piecing easier.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I love this design, the instructions, the colours and the finished effect. Although I think my piecing of the 'leaves' could've been a little more precise! I don't think though that this in any way detracts from the overall effect of the flower.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhshsOYdmSlUvLwVdiIFMSzh5VJ6yXSuMY4My95t4K0f1b_38r-dr1w542tPtpmwiXRN4nmKv3eY2q7eHVQ4zn3vzf6DAQGew-LqHwxbl2cUYCyzjP4mrv3Bm1vYNUOUPD5pGCR686gkS4/s1600/PA091734.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhshsOYdmSlUvLwVdiIFMSzh5VJ6yXSuMY4My95t4K0f1b_38r-dr1w542tPtpmwiXRN4nmKv3eY2q7eHVQ4zn3vzf6DAQGew-LqHwxbl2cUYCyzjP4mrv3Bm1vYNUOUPD5pGCR686gkS4/s640/PA091734.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have decided to 'needleturn' the centre of the flower. This is my preferred method of applique even though it can be time consuming I always think the result is well worth the effort!<br />
<br />

It wouldn't be a Christmas quilt without a snowman, so this is exactly what Sherry has designed for us!<br />
<br />
This is a pieced block with a tiny piece of applique and embroidery features....here we go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQb3812X7EOlyOlXadXCYdFiHYz5vqxG1V9EfFxzgETVcT8HNqoOk95dzMWD3iaP2G74aT3v3OOTmuJA3YEvC_dYovohcD8sbL18ZSGFqstvqwjWjF47ORpVlX_hIiDIUzKqxEcvqLiIU/s1600/P9111574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQb3812X7EOlyOlXadXCYdFiHYz5vqxG1V9EfFxzgETVcT8HNqoOk95dzMWD3iaP2G74aT3v3OOTmuJA3YEvC_dYovohcD8sbL18ZSGFqstvqwjWjF47ORpVlX_hIiDIUzKqxEcvqLiIU/s640/P9111574.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Download the pattern from <a href="https://poweredbyquilting.com/2017/09/11/i-wish-you-a-merry-qal-block-5/#more-3212" target="_blank">Sherry's </a>site and follow the cutting list to make sure you have all the pieces ready.<br />
<br />
The instructions are excellent for beginners and the more experienced alike. It was lovely to see the snowman take shape from the outset.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLyN0oWaWdd5b5zDcATwgtn7McOxpfVj_zrt7tEnDlxsx7RKnk792qscuN6idntrBdw6nPF1AEhw3yCqq8TZVUOoohp9lwc5FRhfZaiS3xJxYPfzoGqUUVyk00OeJDBKPzNX4972SqjN8/s1600/P9111577.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLyN0oWaWdd5b5zDcATwgtn7McOxpfVj_zrt7tEnDlxsx7RKnk792qscuN6idntrBdw6nPF1AEhw3yCqq8TZVUOoohp9lwc5FRhfZaiS3xJxYPfzoGqUUVyk00OeJDBKPzNX4972SqjN8/s640/P9111577.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Seeing the snowman under construction is very satisfying.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf9eJjmt0tsNqjMilOYPdBEsBM6AVbJz2chYjtExD6wIZ92g0fZfLDb6itd_qSeFSCOluOaq7uNdGA1JdX8uNcABFr7_9Jng28POHt4SnFIKRjVKY97z-33PedAgOEJVk-BvtV7FZIMc4/s1600/P9111578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf9eJjmt0tsNqjMilOYPdBEsBM6AVbJz2chYjtExD6wIZ92g0fZfLDb6itd_qSeFSCOluOaq7uNdGA1JdX8uNcABFr7_9Jng28POHt4SnFIKRjVKY97z-33PedAgOEJVk-BvtV7FZIMc4/s640/P9111578.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After putting together the three middle sections and adding the sides he's all ready to add some character.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXRiEmZ3IV8sg0nbI25ZAYRnzQ7mKNGqoPQjzEfrrnLjkkBc_LtQ6R9TE67fonWXkvP9EhMlIW9vzrdL0cfNBcuIdAiY72_Kjq0pe6lyEvt8El_tymx1TlS15oumtfSs4Mq-gVuYhB7qQ/s1600/P9111583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXRiEmZ3IV8sg0nbI25ZAYRnzQ7mKNGqoPQjzEfrrnLjkkBc_LtQ6R9TE67fonWXkvP9EhMlIW9vzrdL0cfNBcuIdAiY72_Kjq0pe6lyEvt8El_tymx1TlS15oumtfSs4Mq-gVuYhB7qQ/s640/P9111583.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Back stitch eyes and twig arms and he's good to go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvGX08Fp9Jb5kzB5ucF7TWGeXp0HGtia6OV57eEFdk50rdy0GDVyGRvwBMHjOkTT-AQU_wJ24_KPp2gwVPtTjF_kwByTPDZAPbyfe6dDV7sKyWDji76XMWeIH10hgEfhIOwpPFUh_O30k/s1600/P9121603.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvGX08Fp9Jb5kzB5ucF7TWGeXp0HGtia6OV57eEFdk50rdy0GDVyGRvwBMHjOkTT-AQU_wJ24_KPp2gwVPtTjF_kwByTPDZAPbyfe6dDV7sKyWDji76XMWeIH10hgEfhIOwpPFUh_O30k/s640/P9121603.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Finshed! I'm really happy with this block. It was super easy to put together thanks to Sherry's instructions and I love the expression on his face, he's super cute!<br />

This is block 4 designed by Jennifer Fulton <a href="http://www.inquiringquilter.com/" target="_blank">the inquiring quilter</a>. Jennifer has called her block Christmas Memories. The instructions and downloadable pattern for making this block is over at Jennifer's blog.<br />
<br />
It's a sweet block made of applique pieces, with detailed instructions from Jennifer on how to construct it. This is my version of the block.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Tracing the pieces onto fusable web making sure each one is labelled to make placement easier!<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This is the first step after cutting the shapes out in the selected
fabric, making sure the right baubles are in the right order.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz92zeSMQmJnnLQExbeh2U63gNT76QmhIFXZm9UMKkuf_bciY9c1EHZkJGE3apXmmhxC-v4o6jVmJFHB6GNTeyVDOM_Iz8kO5BELST6RWXQoa5Ww0-CvY-Luy0Q-zgVpA8kTHneA0RMWc/s1600/P9011555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz92zeSMQmJnnLQExbeh2U63gNT76QmhIFXZm9UMKkuf_bciY9c1EHZkJGE3apXmmhxC-v4o6jVmJFHB6GNTeyVDOM_Iz8kO5BELST6RWXQoa5Ww0-CvY-Luy0Q-zgVpA8kTHneA0RMWc/s640/P9011555.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After removing the backing paper from the fabric it was fun to build the
'picture' by placing each bauble onto the background fabric and
pressing them in place<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO_VPcuQqgJwDGz6O2PZESvX3Ye8aG4BycARKXO7Bd_UAXsXfLoyndFLGkXZzPZV1SZ8GqKsn9pFNb-TiT8N9pDyGwTb1LeBF2F86pl7rFX6IWCO4AsIjnUkN2L4IQsvRir5gGzJWez2U/s1600/P9011558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO_VPcuQqgJwDGz6O2PZESvX3Ye8aG4BycARKXO7Bd_UAXsXfLoyndFLGkXZzPZV1SZ8GqKsn9pFNb-TiT8N9pDyGwTb1LeBF2F86pl7rFX6IWCO4AsIjnUkN2L4IQsvRir5gGzJWez2U/s640/P9011558.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
All the pieces are now in place ready for the finish.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have decided this time to use the raw edge applique method to sew the pieces down. I rarely use this method but there were so many small edges in this block design I felt this was the best option this time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
One disadvantage of using raw edge applique is that the edges of the pieces are in danger of fraying with use, although sometimes this can actually enhance the pieces too!<br />
<br />
<br />

Good luck everybody!! Dianehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06695836374312767012noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7093889165257292769.post-58851318491089302862017-08-29T11:59:00.000-04:002017-08-29T11:59:16.874-04:00I wish you a merry quilt along block 3Block 3!<br />
<br />
This time it's <a href="http://www.sliceofpiquilts.com/" target="_blank">Laura's</a> design and what a cute design it is, with no introduction necessary. It's iconic and easily recognisable.<br />
<br />
I selected the fabrics and decided that the red needed a pattern, snowflakes seemed perfect for this with Santa delivering on a snowy Christmas night.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fabric selected, although I would have liked a gold fabric for Santa's buckle, I don't have any in my stash!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I can't get past this pattern looking like its been printed off centre?! Although looking at the selvedge edge the print seems straight.<br />
<br />
Laura's instructions are well written and the block goes together easily, not one seam unpicked or redone this time! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKTbs_BlpU2Fk0-HNVP_1ewjEOUHOe2b8ns_5XC7J0l3o1t8-USOIS9h2EniLS7q2U7lyckDpTCWyfmgtFBUpDeAlfEvSFQ8iUbjuBMq_iDMPVuNlhM0KT3GhzpKKUNHgbf9UJX-gKmhw/s1600/P8291539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKTbs_BlpU2Fk0-HNVP_1ewjEOUHOe2b8ns_5XC7J0l3o1t8-USOIS9h2EniLS7q2U7lyckDpTCWyfmgtFBUpDeAlfEvSFQ8iUbjuBMq_iDMPVuNlhM0KT3GhzpKKUNHgbf9UJX-gKmhw/s640/P8291539.JPG" width="640" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this block, but not my fabric choices unfortunately. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Every time I look at it I see the fabric print off centre. I will probably do another block for the quilt and use this one elsewhere. Good solution. <br />
<br />

Welcome to block one of the Christmas Quilt Along!<br />
<br />
This sweet snowflake block was designed by Vanda Chittenden, the tutorial can be found over at her website <a href="https://chittenden.co.za/" target="_blank">Quilt in Peace</a>.<br />
<br />
Here is my version of Vanda's block. I have chosen to use a grey background fabric with a snowflake pattern to emphasise Vanda's design. <br />

I had originally planned to do needle turn applique on this block, I love the clean lines of this particular method of applying layers of fabric to build a picture, which is why my printed template pieces have a seam allowance around them. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Realising however just how long this would take I decided to use fusable
web and edge stitch the pieces down for this particular block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpMC8zI9Da3UKI5L_aj10t4ooGOtx50VRmVQ24662CrFX1tjTfaZY_ZlFK1Iu_j1NHRjrbFP97cvTJiwWyfB5SlMod0NAozWv_jFB09uB5ph-WD17bV33HWo7Kvpku0pENu-8skJ5xM4I/s1600/P8021422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpMC8zI9Da3UKI5L_aj10t4ooGOtx50VRmVQ24662CrFX1tjTfaZY_ZlFK1Iu_j1NHRjrbFP97cvTJiwWyfB5SlMod0NAozWv_jFB09uB5ph-WD17bV33HWo7Kvpku0pENu-8skJ5xM4I/s640/P8021422.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Having cut out all the pieces for the block and placed them according to
Vanda's instructions, I decided to pin them in place and remove the
paper backing and press the pieces one a time. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF9b8R4CCKukNbCq8GnZJ9ZU_9rsxp1W3JCo-ky2QfDuPShsplVEdc9Ma81-moEOXNtAbAF61XJJebsxabcKn_42_5jKxQjxB9ITG-a4OtcZpYJ3KTlOeiM76RzwGrap3Wx2JxNqYgsT4/s1600/P8021427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF9b8R4CCKukNbCq8GnZJ9ZU_9rsxp1W3JCo-ky2QfDuPShsplVEdc9Ma81-moEOXNtAbAF61XJJebsxabcKn_42_5jKxQjxB9ITG-a4OtcZpYJ3KTlOeiM76RzwGrap3Wx2JxNqYgsT4/s640/P8021427.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a little tip I have picked up along the way and works like a charm. Instead of trying to pick apart the paper backing from the fabric at the edges, which can sometimes result in them fraying (especially around delicate areas such as points), I use a pin or a needle to score the paper lightly, this way the paper can be peeled from the centre of the piece, leaving the edges intact.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsc5JlqsZhRHOlp041A7nG6U_Qr29EehePekwtMds1YRM0ZheNQEPK6k9cqRQN1m3wkXMpJfbrVhzrVSur7cFIK1Dn7FlfhSWs2AmU2tzwOPShZm7qoIvgDjXZX-10kx8LTZog2-DJP-0/s1600/P8031441.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsc5JlqsZhRHOlp041A7nG6U_Qr29EehePekwtMds1YRM0ZheNQEPK6k9cqRQN1m3wkXMpJfbrVhzrVSur7cFIK1Dn7FlfhSWs2AmU2tzwOPShZm7qoIvgDjXZX-10kx8LTZog2-DJP-0/s640/P8031441.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to use a blanket stitch on my machine to finish the edges of the pieces.<br />
<br />

Just visit any hosts website along the schedule and enjoy a different take on each block for inspiration and guidance!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/778508018976389/" target="_blank">A Facebook group</a> has been opened to share progress, tips, tutorials, group discussions and your finished blocks for wonderful giveaways along the way. Or post on Instagram using #iwishyouamerryqal to join in the fun!<br />
<br />
Techniques used for the blocks are, foundation piecing, paper piecing, applique and embroidery. Please don't be discouraged if you feel you might struggle with any of these, we are all in this together and will walk you through it step by step!<br />
<br />
<br />
How you finish your quilt is up to you. Just keep in mind that there are 12 x 12" blocks, a perfect opportunity to use fabric scraps. There are no hard and fast rules but if you prefer to use sashing between the blocks 1 yard has been suggested plus another yard for a border. 4 yards for the backing, a twin size batting and 1/2 yard for the binding.<br />
<br />
<br />
I hope you will join in with us as we begin this exciting journey together. August 1st.......see you there!<br />

Using fusible web and machine blanket stitch made the whole process quicker, but the results are disappointing. If you look closely at the stem, there are escaped threads! How will this withstand multiple washes?<br />
<br />
I have decided to go with the needle turn appliqué. It will take longer, but I'll be happier with the result. Hopefully.Dianehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06695836374312767012noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7093889165257292769.post-43385606201526191722017-04-14T08:18:00.000-04:002017-04-15T07:49:25.865-04:00Dear Jane oops.....I think its important that we sometimes show the out takes, the add ons at the
end of television shows that makes the characters human. The 'oops' moments!<br />
<br />
I wonder how many 'oops' moments Jane Stickle had during the making of her
quilt. Did she cover them up? Are there any secret blocks that started life in
another form? Its that moment when you take your eye off the ball or let your mind wander and not be present that such incidents occur! I was only two blocks in to my quilt challenge and had two back to back unfortunate circumstances.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Incident #1:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidh34anvpBA03_FjkkZvxaIw1eNNiMI4dpWN95cK2mlXig0GZakrOenL-f9kNc8xxc0DpExHnb8RwjvwcORXFcK0CJz7YC-AUedFTcUORmbPPDhN5w8fe1LWFsC0-ESW2O67Ak8seUO70/s1600/P3191181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidh34anvpBA03_FjkkZvxaIw1eNNiMI4dpWN95cK2mlXig0GZakrOenL-f9kNc8xxc0DpExHnb8RwjvwcORXFcK0CJz7YC-AUedFTcUORmbPPDhN5w8fe1LWFsC0-ESW2O67Ak8seUO70/s640/P3191181.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
How could this have happened? I was so careful. I might just get away with it.
Although the seam allowances are so tight.....I might not.<br />
<br />
<br />
Incident #2:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr-k4xD1AFAV77mVo9Lz7FuWa9BUx42-vSRR_QEn5_AKyjMfAtm5CdfSYaysFv1iZD9KQAWDvwh6t3E5GGIKJxW637N2GT1IZIeSoXwH-WSQos5Gcx1pDWRSBg2flcLG-Ja2EvkUUTOxE/s1600/P3191185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr-k4xD1AFAV77mVo9Lz7FuWa9BUx42-vSRR_QEn5_AKyjMfAtm5CdfSYaysFv1iZD9KQAWDvwh6t3E5GGIKJxW637N2GT1IZIeSoXwH-WSQos5Gcx1pDWRSBg2flcLG-Ja2EvkUUTOxE/s640/P3191185.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Spot the difference?<br />
<br />
I was never going to get away with this one! I chopped the seam allowance off
all the way round! Why for goodness sake?? It's a rookie error and sparked an
eye rolling reaction when I realised what I'd done.<br />
<br />
<br />
But like everything else in life that doesn't quite go to plan, its about getting back on the horse. So I did.
The moral of the tale is simple.....concentrate!<br />
<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's quite humbling don't you think when a quilt such as Jane Stickle's comes to light? A labour of love sewn with only basic tools unlike the ones we have at our disposal today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDbQB5ypOQVKk6VmS2OUOEkynOs3pDIU_0aPHXl5PjxOpOMZIyJz6v3sfsHZBh7B38GpBolIGgN9Wcny_-D5ewSz4l7PKA7uB4Y7tIqeP8l5Q7yDUhoFcKOweunGot8L6VYjA2zRjcug4/s1600/book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDbQB5ypOQVKk6VmS2OUOEkynOs3pDIU_0aPHXl5PjxOpOMZIyJz6v3sfsHZBh7B38GpBolIGgN9Wcny_-D5ewSz4l7PKA7uB4Y7tIqeP8l5Q7yDUhoFcKOweunGot8L6VYjA2zRjcug4/s640/book.jpg" width="610" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks to <a href="http://www.dearjane.com/author.htm" target="_blank">Brenda Papadakis</a> and her reproduction of the quilt we can appreciate Jane's time, effort and expertise and how these are embedded in each of the two hundred and twenty five patterns that make up the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I want to join in with quilters around the world as they also emulate this wonderful quilt, putting their own spin on it and experience first hand how satisfying it will be to complete something so labour intensive and mathematically challenging so, here goes......wish me luck! </div>

Simpson. I love the colours in this collection and decided to scour the
internet for inspiration. I happened upon <a href="http://www.aquiltinglife.com/2013/06/two-new-patterns-tribute-and-sugar.html">A Quilting Life</a>. Now I can combine two of my favourites, Mid-Winter Reds and pinwheels, it wont get any better than this.<br />

Croeso:Welcome<br />
<br />
This first post is a dedication to my ‘team’, My oldest son <a href="https://mjlomax.co.uk/" target="_blank">Michael</a> the Graphic Designer who created my shop and <a href="https://clomax.me.uk/" target="_blank">Craig</a>
the Computer Science graduate who made it happen!! A great big thanks
to you both for your patience, knowledge, silent tutting, and eye
rolling while I got to grips with the 21st century.<br />
<br />
This is all still very new to me but part of the excitement is learning along the way, making mistakes, and learning some more.</div>
